When my son first started eating solids at 5 1/2 months, I bought a pack of regular plastic bibs with a pocket for food to fall in. Those didn’t protect his clothes enough (plus he developed a rash around the base of his neck), so I bought bigger bibs, but when he started using a sippy cup, I knew even those wouldn’t be enough. I ended up buying one of these (blue fizz)and it’s great! My son’s 9 months old and loves feeding himself. That means lots of messes: food falling, wiping his dirty mouth on his shoulder, and of course messes from when he refuses to let me feed him. But this toddler bib keeps his clothes clean. I only bought one, and so far (a month later), that’s all I’ve needed. After each meal, I just wipe it down with with a wet paper towel or wash it with a sponge and soap and leave it on the deck to dry. With the next baby, I think I’ll just go straight to buying these instead of wasting my money on smaller bibs first.
The only thing is that dropped food never seems to fall into the pocket. In our case, it’s probably because the pocket is stuck between my son and his tray when he sits in his high chair and so it (the pocket) can’t “stay open). However, I don’t think the material would allow the pocket to “stay open” anyway.

I started with the Bumkins terrycloth bibs to act as a drool-catcher for my infant. But these take the cake, so to speak. They are the best bibs ever for solids feedings. They cover baby like a smock and salvage the clothes underneath. They rinse clean and are dry by the next feeding.
